The KOSPI Composite Index is South Korea’s primary equity-market benchmark and measures the performance of common stocks listed on the Korea Exchange’s main KOSPI Market. It is constructed as a market-capitalization-based composite index rather than a fixed-constituent blue-chip index, so large companies such as major technology, industrial, auto, financial, and consumer firms drive much of its movement. It is widely used as the headline gauge of South Korean equity-market performance and investor sentiment.
