The SSE Composite Index measures the overall performance of companies listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, including eligible A-shares, B-shares and eligible CDRs. It is weighted by total market capitalization using issued shares rather than free-float adjustment, making large state-owned banks, energy firms, consumer leaders and technology listings influential in index movements. It is China’s most widely followed Shanghai-market benchmark and a key barometer for mainland Chinese equity-market sentiment.
